The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Most Ambitious RPG Yet

The anticipation about the recent awards show was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The secret is finally answered. Larian Studios is creating a fresh Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer that included memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.

A Different Direction

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing implies that the team is likely designing a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another turn-based title. For now, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it sparked the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, player agency, and deep class systems—traits that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs that are viable with a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.

The series is also famously permissive, allowing players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be solved in diverse methods, sometimes in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you heeded something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a inventive way.

More to Come

It is precisely these elements that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can get ready for more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
